The Lecture Series: A Three-Part Program
Independent studies conclude that students ages 5 to 11 are provided a good foundation in the concept of helping for the greater good. Upper school academic pressures, athletics, college applications and selection processes become all consuming during the final 2 years. The prime age group for a program to educate students on the common sense steps to prepare them for the passing of the torch is 12-16 years of age. During these years, they are more inclined to allocate time to focus on community service and non-profit organizations during both the academic year and summer months. They have certain affinities, but their core beliefs are evolving and taking shape. They clearly have passion to make a difference. They feel it in their hearts and souls.
We conduct site visits at each school. We meet with heads of school, deans, development officers and community service/service learning professionals. We develop a strategy that fits with current school initiatives and the school's mission statement. We encourage participation from a small group of students to get a sense of direction of the student body and incorporate their ideas.
First Lecture; Introduction to Grab The Torch. The journey and mission.
Second Lecture; Call to action, set goals, establish direction, schedule site visits.
Third Lecture; Success of initiatives, strategy and future programs.
Each school will select ambassadors. The ambassadors will be eligible for selection to the Youth Advisory Council.
Schools will be invited to post articles written by students on “Grab the Torch” website.
